BCCI Plans Meeting to Address IPL Schedule
On Saturday, BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla announced that the Board officials, along with the IPL Governing Council, will convene on Sunday to explore the most effective schedule for resuming the suspended T20 League, following the recent ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
The IPL was put on hold on Friday, with 16 matches still to be played, due to escalating tensions along the India-Pakistan border, particularly after the Pahalgam terror incident and India's subsequent military response, Operation Sindoor.
Shukla stated, "The conflict has ceased. In light of this new development, BCCI officials and the IPL Governing Council will meet tomorrow to deliberate on the best way forward for the tournament's completion."
There were discussions about potentially relocating the League to southern cities like Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, but Shukla noted that such considerations were primarily relevant if military hostilities had continued.
"That was a possibility during the conflict. Various options have been evaluated. Now that a ceasefire is in place, we need some time to discuss before making any decisions," he added.
Currently, there are still 12 league matches and four playoff matches pending in the tournament.
Most international players participating in the League have already departed the country.
The match on Thursday between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was halted midway due to the ongoing conflict. With the Dharamsala airport closed, players and support staff from both teams had to travel by bus to Jalandhar before taking a train to Delhi.
